About Dr. Trachtenberg
Dr. Lianne Trachtenberg is a licensed Clinical and Health Psychologist, registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. She provides evidence-based, psychological treatment to adults living in Ontario, Canada experiencing a range of mental health difficulties. These include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, self-esteem difficulties, body image distress, disordered eating habits, relationship challenges, and coping with life stressors and transitions.
She is also passionate about health psychology — helping patients and families cope with chronic and life-threatening physical illnesses.
Professional Background
Dr. Trachtenberg received her PhD in Clinical and Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto. During her graduate work, she received the prestigious Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Doctoral Award for her work with breast cancer survivors. In 2019, she completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto. As a Fellow, she created an online group therapy intervention to support women with body image distress across Canada.
Dr. Trachtenberg’s clinical training and professional experience have included a range of diverse positions at several hospital-based clinics in Toronto and the GTA including Toronto General Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Southlake Regional Health Centre, Toronto Rehab Institute, as well as university counselling centres, and private practices.
Over the past ten years, she has presented and published peer-review journal articles and book chapters on topics in psychosocial oncology, women’s mental health, the experience of embodiment, body image distress, and identity reformations across the cancer journey.
My Approach
My approach can be described as warm, inclusive, and non-judgemental. I strive to create a genuine, safe, and empathic relationships with my clients, which I view as instrumental to the success of therapy.
As a scientist-practitioner at heart, I am passionate about providing evidence-based psychological treatment to my clients. I use an integrative approach that primarily draws upon Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while incorporating third wave therapies including Schema Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
I strongly believe in providing a combination of insight and individually crafted tools to help achieve my clients' unique goals. I work collaboratively with clients, viewing them as the expert of their own lived experiences.
